I remember it as clear as day - I went to the state fair with my dad. Walking by a booth, I saw a big Monopoly game on the wall, and I happen to love Monopoly! I've always had a little interest in real-estate. not a huge, all-in interest, but I find it fascinating. Well my soon to be buddy Kendall was right there in this booth.
A quick note on how amazing Kendall is and how he exemplifies the Renatus way. They don't JUST talk the talk, they walk the walk, BUT they do thankfully talk the talk too in order to get people's attention and then when they walk the walk with them, it makes all the difference. Kendall is perfect at doing this honestly. I learned that Renatus practices what they preach and those two aspects have permanently cemented this company in my heart and is why I literally tell everyone about it now.
So on to the story, I happened to notice the Monopoly game and being there just with my cute dad that was happy to ride his scooter around looking at things in the room, I stopped and talked to Kendall for a minute. Within about 5 minutes he had me extremely interested because he pulled me over to the little iPad he had there and started telling me some AWESOME real-estate strategies right there. He started telling me how you don't have to have credit or money to get a house, and the steps on how to do it, not just the idea! I want to mention that I had actually had some past experience with a family member that took this "Use other people's money" approach but NOT in the way Renatus wants at all, more through the Win for me, lose for you way. I was hesitant to accept that concept, but also had VERY much experienced NOT being able to do anything with real estate, even the house I did own and had equity in, because of income and credit. He showed me right off how to do this is an EVERYONE wins way that is very doable and happens daily in the Renatus community. He told me right away that this program was not about taking advantage of people at all and and if the deal doesn't work for everyone, they don't do it! I have since heard that repeated and taught at every single Renatus event and in every interaction I have had.
So right there at that little booth, I learned some strategies that had me VERY interested! The talk that Kendall talked was just awesome! He happened to mention that he was coming down to his brother's office nearby and doing a presentation in the next couple weeks with more strategies. it was free and he would love to have me come! Heck yes I wanted to come! My other buddy to be, Sandy, was also there and she just radiated kindness as I have found common to the whole community. She was just as excited about Renatus as Kendall too and something about her infectious smile and the immediate hug I already got was definitely a draw too. They both made a promise that day that they have fulfilled HUNDREDS of times over, to "blow my mind" with what i was about to learn!
So a few weeks later, I happily drove the 90 or so miles down to the event with Kendall and I sat for the next 2 or 3 hours listening to him give the most awesome, amazing strategies about finances in general, taxes, real estate - both about my own home I live in and the rental I inherited (my Grandma has a big hug waiting on the other side!) He fulfilled the blow my mind promise right there! So "talking the talk" by sharing the awesome information that generally helps people, without strings, is so powerful!
I loved the idea of Renatus, but when he mentioned the process of joining Renatus, yes there is a cost and though it is smaller than most real-estate education companies out there, it was not small for my current bank account. So when he very politely and not in a pushy way at all asked if I was interested, I was a "kind of."
What Kendall did next was walk to the walk, showing me he genuinely cared about ME and MY situation, not just about a sale, it was secondary. This made all the difference. There was no way I could make the price happen, just logistically not gonna happen. I loved the idea, but was already struggling with some sincere financial problems I had kept quiet to him. We were pretty much at zero across the board, recently moved and were trying to get the income rolling in again, and didn't know how to function at the moment with my own regular expenses, let along any new ones! This is so so common in the people we approach on Renatus, story after story of people in SINCERE DISTRESS, that are pretty much rescued when they commit and actually do what they learn (the Renatus disclaimer, we can't be successful FOR you, it is up to you to DO what we teach you to do!) We GET IT THOUGH, the struggle life brings so quickly, the empty pockets, WE HAVE BEEN THERE. Those of us who were given hope, taught, and followed the awesome concepts we learned are GIDDY to share our stories because when you do it, the system WORKS!
So at that point, Kendall said okay, no problem to the "kind of interested" answer. I mentioned finances were a big problem right now, and he asked, politely, if we could possibly have a zoom meeting in a couple days to go over my finances to see if he could help - not to see if he could convince me, but if he could HELP us out of our situation.
An interesting thing happened at the same time here. There is a company I had come in contact with in a round-about way who sells life insurance. Nothing against this company they're a great company too, but there was a huge difference in the approach that made all of the difference to me in the end. Their rep also asked me for a sit down zoom meeting to go over my finances to see if they could help and they happened to be first in line schedule-wise. So we sat down, I told him all about our lousy finances and he wrote it down, and then proceeded very quickly to tell me that the FIRST, MOST URGENT thing I needed was to buy life insurance in order to "protect" my financial situation, then look at more ways to invest in their products to help build a retirement plan so our future is secure. I kind of did a double take... I thought this was supposed to address my CURRENT financial struggles and that he genuinely wanted to help. Instead it was a big sales pitch covered in a quick financial review that went no where but making me feel worse because I couldn't afford anything he suggested. Thanks for the boost dude.... I didn't have anything to invest, I was in trouble NOW! But that was the end of the meeting and it left me with a very sour taste in my mouth for the whole sales thing.
Well the next day was Kendall's meeting and I'll be honest at first I'm like "Oh great, another one! do I really want to do this?" Thankfully I didn't say no and I sat down with Kendall.
This is what I really want to get across in this article. This meeting was a perfect example of how walking the walk and wanting a Win-Win For EVERYONE makes all the difference in our interactions and especially in the field of sales. Kendall's meeting was night and day different. Kendall actually took the time to look at the details of our finances, took it all in. He had mentioned along the way, because I asked, about the Renatus education portion that involves a purchase, but that was NOT number one in the conversation at all. He actually said "Let's not worry about that now," if it came up. He learned that we were what he calls "Equity rich but cash poor (I.e. can't seem to TOUCH the equity that could actually help us, it is just sitting there)." Boy was I feeling that! He showed lots of options that I had NO idea existed for getting us back on track financially, He set us up with someone in the community that does just what he described, someone who was very willing to take a risk on this person here who was not as experienced and had some financial issues the traditional banks scoffed at, and it seemed so simple! Our problems didn't seem like problems to him, but rather opportunities to grow! Kendall met with us several times and talked me through everything, all on his own time, not an hourly rate paid consult, not with a pushy boss behind him, but just as a human. Is there a kick back for getting people to join, yes, the company loves its members and encourages sharing, that's not a bad thing! But was Kendall aware of the fact I could just say no and walk away and he would be out a few hours, and was he happy to keep talking even if I did, yes! Was he slyly hinting the whole time and make sure I was aware he wanted a sale out of this, absolutely not! He was as calm and casual about the aspect of me POSSIBLY joining as anyone would be in a regular conversation.
Honestly, what he helped us do to fix our situation has been a LIFE CHANGER! He presented hope first. and ONLY after he knew that we were taken care of now financially, he mentioned that if I still wanted to, I could also afford the education with this plan we were doing. Do you think there was any way I was going to say no at that point!? and not because I was pushed, or persuaded, but because if Kendall was willing to spend the time, focus and sincere care in doing this for me just to help our situation, if he indeed had the resources, ideas and brilliancy to easily get us back on track with more ideas in the background if needed, and if he actually was making it actually happen, I sure as heck wanted to know what he knew, wanted to know how to do this for others and was completely converted to Renatus already before even joining! I was ALL IN. and HAPPILY so!
That wasn't all though, I was already all in, but became even MORE all in a few weeks later. I had started the process of joining, but then heard about the Renatus E3 summit coming up. This is a quarterly AMAZING conference FULL of highly qualified speakers in their field who teach the tricks of the trade. It does typically have a cost for Renatus members, and with the fact I was becoming a member I thought I probably would have to pay for it, couldn't yet afford it as things were in process still, and had something at home I had to stay at home for. Well, I mentioned it to Kendall, and within about one minute, he sent me over a free ticket, and the link to watch it online, just like that. Renatus gets it, convenience and complimentary go a long way. I hadn't expected to get to attend, but I am FOREVER grateful I got to, the mind blowing had only started.
At the E3 summit, there are tons of speakers about so many topics, simply AMAZING speakers! They pour out info on these topics, concepts, creativity and tricks of the trade, actual useful and relevant info by the gallons! They talk about real estate in a way us new non-professionals can understand. They teach tax tricks, and being a tax preparer I was literally yelling at my screen "This is so cool!" to which my teenage daughter gave me a laughing "My mom is a nerd" eye roll! Mind blown!
I learned about what motivates people in general and how to find their DRIVE in order to improve relationships, increase sales and just work better with people (look it up, Woody Woodward, discoveryourdrive.com, mind blown again!) and even found my purpose in life in one of the talks about affordable housing, something I wanted to do anyway and the speaker, awesome Umaer Hoc, has the art down! Mind blown again and again and again! I was so obsessed with listening, I kept the headphones in during a wedding we had to go to! I do not do that usually! E3 is THAT good!
I came away from these experiences a converted, forever fan and believer in the Renatus way, and have never had any reason to change my mind since, it has only increased! I have a deep admiration for this company and a motivation just to do awesome things in life with what they beautifully teach. I can help others, secure my family's future and keep the win-wins coming! I had to literally take a few days to wind down from the E3 cause the adrenaline was so high! it was incredible. My goals, my hopes, what I want to teach my family and my ability to do so have only been helped by Renatus, they are the REAL DEAL and I share my story as an example of this.
In sales and in our interactions in general with people, I consider this example of sincere, heart-involved sales, to be the kind of arrangement that that is a win-win and the ONLY kind of sales I am every going to do, because I learned from the best! When it is not having to "convince" or talk someone into something that they then regret the next day and hate you for, but instead when they are basically ASKING you to PLEASE let them buy your product because they are so impressed, then they learn how it really does what was promised, and then go on to HAPPILY do the same for others, that is a win all around. That is why I am a forever, huge Renatus fan. Mind blown Kendall, mind blown!
